It is my pleasure to welcome you to the website of the Temasek Humanities & Social Sciences School (HSS), Temasek Polytechnic’s newest kid on the block.

HSS started in October 2007 when the former Interdisciplinary & General Studies Department was converted into a full-fledged academic school. The School is unique in the sense that it has a three-fold portfolio – (i) offering full-time diploma courses (ii) offering Cross-Disciplinary Subjects (CDS) and (iii) developing the Applied Principles for Effective Living (APEL) curriculum.

HSS will offer its first diploma course in Psychology Studies in April 2008. The focus of this course is on the application of Psychology to steer employees towards peak performance in the workplace.

We plan to offer a few more diploma courses to meet the interests of school leavers who wish to have a deeper insight into specific areas of humanities and social sciences, as well as to meet the needs of employers who want to hire graduates with good reasoning and creative thinking skills, and also the ability to connect well with people.

Currently, HSS offers Cross Disciplinary Subjects in diverse areas such as foreign languages (Japanese, French, and Italian), the arts (visual art, music, and theatre), social sciences (psychology and sociology) and language/ communication (creative writing and public speaking).
